:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Tame Adams -- Hold on tight! : This book, the fourth in the series, was much darker and dirtier than the previous 3, as it showed more of the mindset of the MC clubs, their hierarchy, and degrees of loyalty. It showed two men from clubs who failed to unite against a shared enemy, how deep disloyalty runs, and what might a person do to sacrifice for love, for loyalty, for family. The BDSM elements were present to a degree, which is not my normal type of reading I do, but this author wrote it in such a way, I kept reading and enjoying it. Jax & Hawke were 2 characters whose personalities and presence lasted long after I read it the first time. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mary Webber -- Darker than the other books : I found this book, Jax and Hawke's story, to be more violent/brutal than the others. Hawke's story especially - so full of pain. Jax's life was no picnic either, but he had been exposed to love whereas Hawke hadn't. Sometimes it was hard to read because it felt, to me, so hopeless. Yes, Hawke and Jax had a relationship, but there was no softness in it. Guess that's why the whole book just seemed to be physical/emotional pain upon pain. Still - I kept turning the pages, still wanted to be some HEA and there it was. That's not a spoiler as all E.M. Lindsey's books have a decent ending. Hawks has been an intriguing character since the first and I’m glad to get a bit of his history and see him add to his future. There was a tangible, fierce connection between Hawke & Jax that was fiery in more ways than one. I also liked seeing a bit of other Chains members and the progression of the series arc too. The chemistry between Jax and Hawke, the action, the justice, the furthering of the plot. Such a great addition to the series. With every book, Lindsey is creating a stronger series. And I mean that. Jax and Hawke are magnetic, and completely hooked me on their relationship. They each know what they need and it’s clear they’ll find it together. They both enjoy an element of pain to their physical relationship, and the way it was written feels genuine and adds a deeper layer to their connection. As for the story and all the other characters, I am very much anticipating their big confrontation with Hydra. It’s going to be dark, gritty, and yet so incredibly hopeful and heart-warming. Smokey sends him on a trip to the Cobras, another club to see if they’re willing to be allies against the rogue Hydra who’s been tormenting the Chains and disrupting their businesses. Hawke sets eyes on the Presidents son Jax and neither can keep away from the other, Jax is in a dangerous position with his father who cares nothing for him, or anyone else in his club. There’s a lot going on and both men are trying to sort out the problems the Chains are facing. Best read in series order for full understanding and maximum enjoyment due to story continuing throughout the series, different couple each book. Easy to read page-turner with lots of emotion and angst and heat. I loved reading their story and I really don't want this series to end...it's so good! Hawke and Jax are perfect for each other.
