• 2.0 out of 5 stars from big flavors, small kitchen -- Boring : I just don't think this book is interesting. I've read many, many mysteries (> 30) since Covid hit, and this one falls at the bottom. The writing is young and the plot is uninteresting (for me, at least). Reviews mentioned humorous but I don't see it. My interest perked up a bit about 2/3 through but that's not enough for me to recommend this book. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2020 )
• 3.0 out of 5 stars from DWC -- Beware of Gimmick Author Used to Confuse Reader : "I Said Yes," by Kiersten Modglin was an engaging read which held my interest to the end. It is a short read for a novel, only 203 pages. The story is primarily told from the first person point of view of Hannah, the wife. There are a few chapters from "Mark's" point of view, but very few. I disliked the chronology of the book. We read in the first two chapters that a murder has occurred and both "Mark" and Hannah know who the murderer is. But then the author fills in the back story for the next 150 pages (remember there are only 203 pages in the entire book), so it feels as if she has dropped the murder and moved on to fill us in on what happened prior to the murder. I understand flashbacks and filling in past details, but to do so for 150 pages seemed excessive. ( Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2020 )

This is the story of Hannah's marriage to Mark, a recovering alcoholic with a sordid history that he keeps secret from her. She is not blameless in the tale as she betrays him by having an affair with Luis, her yoga instructor. The story is told from a his and her perspective and when the reveal comes it adds impetus to the story but I felt the ending was weak. 3 stars. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2020 )

• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Karla Kay -- What a great story! : My thoughts on Hannah and Mark's life together are that of fear. They should never have connected in the first place. She was just another of his victims whom he actually ended up loving. This story twisted about and compounded like nothing I have read before. Each turn just made it more gripping and kept me reading. I love this author, have read most everything she has written and am always wanting more! Thank you. • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Gwendy P. -- really amateurish writing : This is one of my favourite structures, the past/present he said/she said story. In this case it is mostly told from the POV of the female half of a married couple. A "liar" according to her husband, a recovering alcoholic who has taken a deep dive off the wagon. However, unfortunately, the writing was super amateurish and basic. Zero depth of character and severely lacking in atmosphere. It skimmed the surface. This was like reading a children's book, the writing was so bad. The ending I admit did surprise me, but not enough to redeem it. ( Reviewed in Canada on September 17, 2020 )
